Getting to know Hands Across the Bay Dance contestant Traci Powell with "10 questions"

TAMPA - Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities, local newsmakers and athletes?

Each Tuesday, ABC Action News asks 10 questions of a Bay area leader, politician or even national celebrity.

We go beyond the questions that are news of the day. After all sometimes, we want know more about them. What's their favorite music? Greatest success? And who do they look up to?

In the weeks ahead, I am honored to profile my fellow dancers taking part in Julie Weintraub's Hands Across the Bay Dancing with the Stars local extravaganza.

I am also honored to take part in this event which is one of the most popular in the Bay area.

In its sixth year, proceeds from the Hands Across the Bay event go to local charities and individuals who need help.

This week we hear from Traci Powell. She is the founder of  Visitation Management Services LLC-where she can make the difference in the lives of children.

Her organization provides services to children and families affected by domestic violence, physical and mental abuse in Family Court of the 13th Judicial Circuit.

Traci said one of her most passionate roles is being a "voice" for children. In addition to all the work she does with Visitation Management Services LLC, she also volunteers as a Guardian Ad Litem for children in dependency court.

Traci is a proud native Floridian, raised in the South Tampa Community.

She said she has long been a huge supporter of numerous Tampa Bay Charities and now is proud to spread that message to her twin 9-year-old sons, Nicholas and Nathan.

You may have also seen Traci on the sidelines at a Buccaneers game, where she was a member of the Buccaneer Cheerleading squad.

I know she is going to be simply fantastic!

Money raised from the votes benefits the charities listed on the website.

As many of you may know, I have been doing this segment for nearly three years. My favorite question is number 8: If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?

Traci gave me an answer I have never seen before-and I had to say her comments made me chuckle! I hope you enjoy!

1. What is your all time favorite movie or song?

My favorite song is Uncle Krackers "Smile".  I love the line that says " I see the best of me inside your eyes…you make me smile".  It reminds me of my 9 year old twin boys, Nicholas and Nathan.

2. Do you have a Smartphone? If so, what's your favorite app?

My new favorite app is called "Heads Up". It's a hilarious game for all ages and entertains kids for hours, especially on long road trips.

3. Who do you count as your mentor(s)?

My parents have been my mentors. They gave me a great foundation to believe in myself, respect God's gifts, instilled the spirit of adventure and the importance of sharing family meals together.  My recent mentor is my BFF's mom, Mary Lorences Baldwin, who raised 2 kids on her own and is now battling a brain tumor with a warrior style spirit.

4. What was your very first job?

My first job was working at Merry Go Round selling jeans and at Lucky C Stables grooming horses and cleaning stalls just so I could be around my passion of horses.

5. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

If I could change one thing about myself it would be to stop focusing on what I don't want to happen and focus on what I do want to happen. Sure, positive thinking by itself won't lead to success, but it certainly goes a long way to motivate me to do the things required.

6. What do you consider your greatest success?

My greatest success in life is raising happy, healthy, well mannered and well balanced children.

7. Tell us something about you most people don't know?

Most people see me as a Girly Girl on the outside, but I am even more comfortable camping, riding horses, motorcycles and wearing flip flops with no make up. Oh, I also have a habit of always reading magazines starting from the last page to the first page. lol

8. If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?

I know this may not be politically correct, but I think it would be interesting to have dinner with God, the Devil and my Mother. :-)

9. What is in your fridge right now?

My fridge always has milk for the boys and cucumber, lime and mint for my adult cocktails.

10. If you could have a different career, other then what you're doing now, what would it be?

I would love to be a full time philanthropist, who volunteered helping those less fortunate around the world with my partner and children. It would be such a life changing experience, while learning about the importance of different cultures and witnessing world history events.

Fred Astaire Dance Studio in North Tampa donated all my lessons as well as the lessons for the other fellow dancers.

Dancing has become an extremely popular work out and activity following the hit ABC series, DANCING WITH THE STARS.

Fred Astaire Studio's in Tampa Bay are graciously providing the training we need. My dance instructor, Chris Carr is the best teacher! He is so patient with me and my two left feet:)
