HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities, local newsmakers and athletes? Who are their mentors and who would they really like to meet?
Each Tuesday, ABC Action News asks 10 questions of a Bay area leader or celebrity. They're fun questions that let you get to know the person.
This week we are thrilled to hear from quite a colorful personality and a politician in our community known for speaking her mind, former state senator Ronda Storms.
Storms decided to leave the post she held since 2006 to run for Hillsborough County Property Appraiser.
Storms said she was appalled at a porn e-mail scandal surrounding former appraiser Rob Turner.
Turner, who rarely had any opposition during his 16 year tenure, was defeated in the primary.
Storms is used to being in the political spotlight. Prior to her position as state senator, Storms served eight years on the Hillsborough County Commission and spoke out on many issues. At times, she caused quite a bit of discussion on her views from her stance on gay issues to planned parenthood funding.
You can head to http://www.rondastorms.com to learn more on her positions.
While quite passionate about the bay area, Storms was actually born in Iowa into a military family.
She moved quite a bit and even lived in Germany and Turkey. Storms said she actually used to be fluent in the Turkish language.
Her family settled in Brandon, Florida when she was a teenager. Storms, then Ronda Newcomb, graduated from Brandon High School. She then went on to the University of South Florida where she graduated with a bachelor of arts.
Storms then went on to teach English at Bloomingdale High School. But, she decided she wanted to learn even more. So, Storms headed to Stetson Law School where she graduated Cum Laude.
She married the man she calls her mentor, David Storms in December 1986. The couple has two children.
