TAMPA - TAMPA -Are you ever curious about the real lives of politicians, celebrities, local newsmakers and athletes?
Each Tuesday, ABC Action News asks 10 questions of a Bay area leader, politician or even national celebrity.
We go beyond the questions that are news of the day. After all sometimes, we want know more about them. What's their favorite music? Biggest regret? And who do they look up to?
This week, our own Ryan Raiche answers our 10 questions.
Typically, I would not feature two of my colleagues back to back. Last week, I brought you Jamison Uhler's 10 questions after The Society of Professional Journalist Sunshine State Awards named him Anchor of the Year.
But, I wanted the community to get to know Ryan better after his outstanding coverage of the George Zimmerman trial.
He was the only Tampa Bay reporter who was there from day one covering this trial that gripped an entire nation.
Ryan joined the Action News Team in June of 2011 from Traverse City, Michigan.
He worked there five years and says that he was happy to give up the snow for sunny Florida!
In fact, on one of his first days here, they asked me to go out with Ryan on a story to help him get better acquainted with our system. After just spending a few minutes with him, I thought what a nice guy and what a solid journalist!
Ryan is in our Polk County Bureau and works every day to bring you the latest news and developments out of the area.
To find out about Ryan's latest stories you can follow Ryan on Twitter at @RyanRaiche or "like" him on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RyanRaiche .
If you have a story he would like to hear from you. Or, if you would like to just say hi, you can reach out to him via e-mail at RRaiche@abcactionnews.com
I so enjoyed reading his answers as well to this week's 10 questions. He's about ready to take a huge step in his life.
I also laughed out loud after reading about his first job! I could just picture this happening!
I hope you enjoy Ryan's answers.
1. What is your all time favorite movie or song?
Movie: in recent years, I'd say Inception. As far as classics go: Forrest Gump. Song: This changes all the time. Since I just went to a Dave Matthew's concert, lets go with Grey Street by DMB!
2. Do you have a Smartphone? If so, what's your favorite app?
I have two iphones -- one is for work and the other is my personal phone. I would have to say my favorite app is Facebook, but since that's a boring answer, I'll add a few others: MLB At Bat, to keep up with the Detroit Tigers, and Evernote -- it's a handy app to take notes and it syncs to all your devices.
3. Who do you count as your mentor(s)?
I had a professor in college at Central Michigan University named Rick Sykes. He taught me the fundamentals of the job I have now. He always pushed me to be better and encouraged me down the right path. I have a few others who I count as mentors, but he's the one who always sticks out.
4. What was your very first job?
I got my first job at the age of 13 as a golf caddy at this super private golf course. At the time, I didn't know much about golf and even less about caddying, and evidentially may dad didn't either. I'll never forget the first week on the job, he came to pick me up and honked the horn several times as if to say "hey, I'm here!" I think everyone on the front nine heard it. Groups of golfers and caddies gave me the death stare as I walked to the car. My dad and I didn't know any better. Somehow I kept my job and it's actually where I started to fall in love with the game!
5. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
I'd change the part of me that struggles to remember peoples names.
6 . What do you consider your greatest success?
Hopefully my greatest success is yet to come. Up to this point in my life, it's graduating college and thriving in a career that I set on since high school. With that said, I'm in the final stages of planning an out of state wedding in a few weeks with my fiance. Depending on how it goes, that could be my new greatest success. :)
7. Tell us something about you most people don't know?
During high school and college I worked as a disc jockey at a top 40/pop radio station in northern Michigan. It was fun and I learned a lot about broadcasting. But listening to the same songs over and over again got a little old. One other thing most people don't know: I hate seafood.
8. If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be?
Ernie Harwell, Peter Jennings and Bruce Springsteen.
9. What is in your fridge right now?
Diet coke, hummus, grapes, strawberries, and a bottle of wine. Clearly I need to go grocery shopping!
10. If you could have a different career, other then what you're doing now, what would it be?
It would probably be something web/tech/computer related. I'm a nerd, but I embrace it.
Please keep sending me your suggestions. I look forward to hearing from you!
