TAMPA - Saturday kicks off the annual pirate celebration of Gasparilla. ABC Action News' Sean Daly got a pirate make over Saturday morning at Tampa's Yacht Club to start off the full day of pirate festivities.
Sean got some inside information from Ye Mystic Krewe's Captain Von Thorn on what to expect for the pending invasion.
The day long festivities start with the Invasion Brunch at the Tampa Convention Center. Tickets are required for this event.
At 11:30 the invasion begins as the flotilla, lead by the Jose Gasparilla, makes it's way down the Hillsborough Bay. Canons will be firing as the pirates prepare to dock at the Tampa Convention Center. People can line the Riverwalk along Harbor Island, Davis Islands and downtown to get the best views of the ships coming in. The invasion continues until 1 p.m.
The parade doesn't start until 2 p.m. on Bayshore Boulevard, but this year there will be pre-parade concerts happening at MacDill Park on Ashley Drive. Pre-parade musical performers include Matt Weis and Southern Train.
From 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. pirates and wenches sail down Bayshore Boulevard tossing beads to parade goers.
After the parade ends in downtown Tampa, the official after-party of Gasparilla will take place at Curtis Hixon Park featuring live music including C'NERGY and Daniel B. Marshal. The event is free. Drink and food vendors will be available.
