Coast Guard recovers body after unmanned jet ski found

The U.S. Coast Guard recovered the body of a missing man after a boater spotted an unmanned jet ski on Monday morning, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. 

Officials with FWC along with deputies will the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department assisted the U.S. Coast Guard in the search. The Jawhawk helicopter was used to search the area.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a civilian boater called about the unmanned jet ski just off of the Courtney Campbell Causeway on the southeast side around 9 p.m. Sunday evening.

At approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, the body of the missing jet ski operator, Jose Vazquez, 61, of Apollo Beach was found in shallow water south of the Courtney Campbell Causeway, according to FWC.

FWC is the lead agency on this incident, with assistance from the United States Coast Guard, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, and Tampa Police Department.

This accident investigation is ongoing.
