A 26-year-old Apollo Beach man is in custody today in connection with a road rage incident at westbound Interstate 4 and  21st Street in Ybor City Friday, officials said.

Eric Joseph Starowicz  was picked up at his house on Old Benton Drive in Apollo Beach about 8:45 a.m. Sunday, May 14, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Starowicz is a suspect in a road rage incident that occurred shortly before noon Friday at the westbound I-4 entrance ramp from 21st Street.

A blue Jeep Starowicz was driving was traveling on the I-4 entrance ramp from 21st Street behind a white van, the highway patrol report said. When the white van slowed to merge into another lane, the Jeep overtook the white van, moved in front  and suddenly stopped.

Unable to avoid the collision, the white van struck the rear of the Jeep, causing a minor crash.

Starowicz got out of the Jeep, walked up to the window of the white van, and shattered it with an unknown object, the report said.

Starowicz threatened to kill the driver of the white van, James Nathaniel Robinson, 34, of Tampa. The report said Starowicz got back into his vehicle and drove away.

When arrested Sunday, Starowicz was charged with burglary of a conveyance, driving while license suspended, and leaving the scene of a crash.
