5 things you need to know happening in Florida on Friday, May 24

Here are 5 things you need to know happening in Florida on Friday, May 24.

1.  Disney's Magic Kingdom in Florida is pulling an "All-Nighter"

Disney's Magic Kingdom is kicking off the summer season by keeping its Magic Kingdom theme park open non-stop for 24 hours!

The oversized fun of a 24-hour Disney park "All-Nighter" called for an equally epic announcement, and the huge sphere of Spaceship Earth was transformed from the Disney Parks icon to a Disney-Pixar "Eye-con," becoming a 180-foot-tall, fully animated Mike Wazowski, the loveable green-bodied, one-eyed monster who joins best pal James P. Sullivan ("Sulley") in the prequel to Monsters, Inc., this summer as college students with hopes of becoming Scarers.

Click here if you'd like to check out a live stream of the activity on Main Street USA.

The park is open from 6:00 a.m. May 24 to 6:00 a.m. May 25.  Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in California will also be open for 24 hours, with special entertainment, including a Monsters University "TLT Monstrous" Dance Club and Star Wars characters in Tomorrowland, and late-night Character Pajama Party in Mickey's Toontown at Disneyland.

All three parks will feature limited-edition specialty merchandise and food and beverage offerings plus other surprises throughout the entire day.

For more information, visit the Disney Parks web site.

The New York Yankees will begin a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays tonight, with their second visit to Tropicana Field this season.
Right now, the Yankees find themselves in first place with a four-game lead over the fourth-place Rays -- but they are also set to begin the series without Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez, Kevin Youkilis and Francisco Cervelli, all of whom are on the team's disabled list.
Tickets are available at RaysBaseball.com.
The game starts at 7:10 p.m.

The scenario will test the initial response of emergency personnel to the kind of crisis dealt with in school shootings, like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut last year.
It will also test the collaboration of EMS, Fire Rescue, School District and Sheriff's Office response to an active incident with casualties and those needing immediate treatment.
