RIVERVIEW, Fla. - Hillsborough County Sheriff deputies are currently investigating a body that was found behind Summerfield Shopping Plaza near Big Bend Road.
Neighbors living next to the Summerfield Plaza awoke this morning to find Sheriff's deputies, forensic detectives, and yellow crime tape surrounding some of the businesses. "It's just a little crazy waking up in the morning seeing a bunch of Sheriff officers, crime scene investigation going on," Travis said.
He lives with his mother just around the corner and was shocked to hear about a body being found. "Don't really make me feel to safe here in my neighborhood," Travis said.
Deputies say the driver of a garbage truck found the body early this morning in a grassy area next to a pond that sits behind the plaza. "It doesn't appear she's been here any longer than last night. Probably sometime between last night and this morning she was placed there," Colonel Donna Luscyznski with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department said.
The body is that of 21-year-old Meaghan Casady from Gibsonton. Deputies say the body was found naked and there were no signs of trauma.
Until media examiners determine the cause of death, the sheriff's department is treating it as a suspicious death investigation. "A number of the businesses do have cameras and were working with them to get those videos and film," Colonel Luscyznski said.
For Travis, the mystery surrounding what happened at the place is keeping him on edge. "Definitely keep your eyes peeled a little more," Travis said. "Use more precaution on everything, just keep an eye out for everybody."
The sheriff's office is looking to speak with anyone who may have some sort of idea of Meaghan's whereabouts in the past 24-48 hours. They are urged to call deputies (813) 247-8200.
