NEW TAMPA, Fla. - Wharton High School in New Tampa was placed on lockdown Thursday morning following word of a possible weapon on campus.
The lockdown lasted until around 4 p.m.
Dismissal was delayed for about an hour while deputies conducted a classroom-by-classroom search.
A student went to administrators shortly before 9 a.m. saying he had overheard something, according to initial reports.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies responded and began searching the campus.
In the end, no weapon was found.
"But, to ensure everyone's safety, law enforcement conducted a thorough classroom-by-classroom search," the Hillsborough County school district said in a statement.
About 1800 students attend Wharton High School.
