Tampa man charged with attempted sexual battery

A 28-year-old man is accused of trying to force his way into a woman’s car and threatening to rape her early Tuesday morning as she waited for a tow truck, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Thomas E. Foss, 28, of 11685 Round Table Way in Tampa, could be behind several similar crimes and sheriff’s investigators are searching for other victims.

Foss approached the woman’s disabled vehicle just before 3 a.m. outside a Walgreen’s at Bloomingdale Avenue and Bell Shoals Road. According to deputies, he tried to pull open the door, threatened to rape her and also exposed himself.

He drove away in a red 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck when the woman screamed and told him she was calling deputies and her husband. Deputies found his pickup at a Hess gas station at Bloomingdale Avenue and Lithia Pinecrest Road. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.

He faces charges of attempted sexual battery, burglary of an occupied conveyance and exposure of a sexual organ.

This is the fourth case this week that Foss may have been involved in, deputies said. In other cases this week, women have reported a man following them in a red pickup truck and asking them for sex. Their description of the man matched Foss.

Deputies are working with the University of South Florida Police Department, which is investigating a similar case.
