LAFAYETTE, La. - A Valrico teenager who authorities say was stabbed by a sex offender is struggling this morning to recover from surgery in a Louisiana hospital.
Ashley Lyon's mother updated her Facebook page Wednesday morning and wrote that overnight, Ashley was struggling to breathe on her own and had to be intubated.
The 16-year-old had surgery Tuesday night for a blood clot in her leg.
"They think she may have pneumonia too because she keeps running fevers and last night she was burning up," Michelle Lyon wrote.
Lyon had praise for the doctors and ICU nurses attending to Ashley.
Authorities say Ashley, who is bipolar, disappeared on June 11.
She was stabbed 10 times, according to investigators, by Steven Myers as authorities chased them down in Louisiana on June 18.
Myers remains in jail on attempted murder charges in Louisiana and is facing other charges here in Hillsborough County in connection with Ashley's disappearance.
