Investigators looking into fire at a junkyard in S. Hillsborough County

PORT MANATEE, Fla. - Fire investigators were on the scene of a fire in the Port Manatee area on Friday morning to determine its cause.

The fire started shortly before 7am, in a brush right next to a junkyard.

Shortly after starting, it jumped a fence and caught plenty of scrap cars on fire, all of which were stacked at least four deep.

Firefighters arrived shortly after, but had a difficulty fighting it because of the lack of nearby fire hydrants and access through the junkyard was limited.

Eventually a bulldozer was brought in to clear the cars, and they started fighting the fire.

But the reason investigators were out there today, was because another fire in the same area had started last night and was successfully put out.

Nacole Ravette from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says that fire was successfully put out, and they determined that fire did not rekindle, leading them to find another reason why this one started.

As of the last check on noon Friday, they had not determined its origin.
