PALM RIVER-CLAIR MEL CITY, Fla. - An 8-year-old girl was rushed to a Tampa hospital after being attacked by a dog in the Palm River-Clair Mel City area Sunday afternoon.
According to Hillsborough County Fire-Rescue spokesperson Ronnie Rivera, the child was transported to Tampa General Hospital after sustaining injuries from a dog attack. Rivera said a male American Staffordshire Terrier attacked the girl.
Rivera said the girl was bitten in the back of the head and the face. Her injuries were considered serious, but are not believed to be life-threatening.
A Hillsborough County animal investigator is working to determine further details. "I spoke with animal control officers and they told me this kind of dog, when not fixed, can be very aggressive," Rivera said.
Family members were at the home at the time. He said the girl's mother had to pull the dog off her to end the attack. The child has not been identified.
