The Buccaneers are welcoming back a familiar face to the Tampa Bay area.
The team announced Wednesday the signing of Louis Murphy, a free agent wide receiver and St. Petersburg native.
Murphy entered the NFL in 2009 as a fourth-round draft pick (124th overall) of the Oakland Raiders before being traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2012. He spent the 2013 season with the New York Giants. Murphy has appeared in 71 games with 24 starts, recording 121 receptions for 1,744 yards and eight touchdowns.
Prior to the NFL, Murphy attended the University of Florida, where he helped the Gators win two BCS National Championships.
He finished his collegiate career with 77 receptions for 1,245 yards and 13 touchdowns. Murphy also played quarterback and wide receiver for Lakewood High School before leaving for UF.
