Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis held a press conference Friday morning to announce the arrests of two officers accused of stealing money in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, deputy Michael Glatfelter is accused of taking more than $1,000 from the Scott Bierwiler Memorial Fund.
Nienhuis said Glatfelter, a former treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police lodge #164, withdrew the money about a year after he stepped down as treasurer.
Bierwiler, a 23-year veteran of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, died in the line of duty in 2009.
In another investigation, Nienhuis said Sgt. Joseph Reid was found to have taken up to $1,500 for personal use in money from the Vice Department budget.
Both men were arrested.
