TAMPA, Fla. - About one million people have their gall bladder removed surgically each year. Forty percent of them are women. Now, they have a new option, a cutting edge surgery.
Today you can have your gall bladder taken out over lunch and be back by dinner.
According to Dr. Darshan Thakkar of Brandon Regional Hospital, single-site robotic surgery is relatively new and gaining in popularity.
"It's a small one incision, about 2.5 centimeters, through the navel and that heals up and after that heals, there is no scar," said Dr. Thakkar.
The doctor says there is less pain, less bleeding, faster recovery time and a shorter hospital stay than traditional laproscopic gall bladder surgery.
