Florida's precincts reporting Obama with 46,000-vote lead over Mitt Romney

Election called for Obama before FL numbers in

TAMPA - The unofficial vote count in Florida shows President Barack Obama with a 46,000-vote lead over Mitt Romney, with 100 percent of precincts reporting -- but Florida historically has left as many as 5 percent of its votes uncounted until after Election Day, making the race much tighter until state officials complete their count.

Election officials are headed back to work this morning to continue counting those votes in several counties across the state.  Some results came in late due in part to heavy voter turnout.

The final numbers for Florida will not have an impact on the general election, however -- President Obama passed the threshold of 270 electoral votes to defeat Mitt Romney Tuesday night, with victories in several key swing states including Ohio and Virginia.
