Family safe after house fire in Saint Petersburg

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla - A family is safe after a house fire in Saint Petersburg this afternoon.  It happened around 4p.m. this afternoon at the 2000 block of 1st Ave South.

Fire crews responded to the fire and found flames coming from the back of the structure.  Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire.

The family was able to make it out of the fire safely.  The mother and son left the home themselves.  The wheelchair bound grandmother was able to make it out of the house with help of a neighbor that pushed her to safety.

The home did not have working smoke alarms. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
