Disney announces Avengers race weekend to runDisney series

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Disney announced a new race series Tuesday that they hope will cause runners everywhere to "assemble."

The Inaugural "Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend" will take place at the Disneyland Resort in California in November.  It is the third race event at the Disneyland Resort, joining the Tinker Bell and Disneyland Half Marathon Weekends, but the first one in the fall season.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this Super Hero collaboration to create this new runDisney race weekend for runners everywhere,’’ said Tom Wolber, senior vice president of Disney Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney.

Similar to the two other race weekends, this race will feature a Half Marathon, 5K, and kids races over the three day event, but Disney officials said the Avengers Half Marathon will take a different route through the resort.

The Avengers event is expected to sell out quickly.

runDisney races are a natural fit because our comic book Super Heroes embody many of the same brand attributes as runDisney, such as heroism and intensity with a heavy dose of fun,’’ said Dan Buckley, president of TV, Publishing and Brand Management for Marvel Entertainment.

The dates of the race are Nov. 14-16. Registration opens Mar. 25.
