Sarasota police are now investigating after people in two cars opened fire at each other, sending bullets across a shopping center.

According to investigators, a shooting occurred between 32nd and 33rd Street along North Washington Boulevard in Sarasota.

Around 3:30 p.m., a 2015 or newer Toyota Camry, white with graphite rims and dark windows and a 2012 or newer gold Chevy Malibu with dark windows, with at least two men in each car, were going east on 32nd Street and started shooting.

The shootout spilled into a nearby shopping center parking lot.

"Scared to look outside at fist. Second, go in and get my own gun," said Camille Clemons, owner of Simply Camille's.

The nail and hair salon owner told ABC Action News that she heard more than a dozen gunshots ring out just outside her front door.

"I'm shaking right now because of that," said Clemons. "I just didn't have an idea of what was going on but I did hear it."

Police say the bullets didn't hit anyone, but did strike one of the buildings.

"I mean, it's good to be alive," said Avery, who works at a nearby metroPCS.

Investigators are now collecting surveillance video, hoping to track down the people inside both cars.

Sarasota police believe these vehicles were also involved in an incident in Manatee county.
