Domestic Violence Awareness Planned in Tampa Bay Area

On behalf of the entire crew at ABC Action News, thank you for your support in the ABC Action News "Taking Action Against Domestic Violence" campaign, which is now in year 5!
The Tampa Bay area has 12 state certified domestic violence centers. We have a full listing of each one and links to their websites. We're often asked by viewers "What can I do to help?" The options are varied and many!
Most of the DV centers operate thrift shops to help fund their programs and shelter operations. Consider shopping at these thrift shops. I know I do! And by all means, consider donating household items, clothes and shoes. The more items they have to sell, the more funding they have to help local families hurting from DV. In past TAADV campaigns, ABC Action News employees have donated more than $6,000 worth of business & evening wear.
This year, during the 6 weeks of the campaign, our Traffic Reporter Meredyth Censullo is "Taking Action with Fashion" – wearing items from the thrift stores of The Spring of Tampa Bay, CASA and The Haven of RCS! She posts pictures on Facebook daily with price, size and store information. Sorry ladies, Deiah Riley and I bought 2 of the items even before she left the news set!
The easiest way to "Take Action Against Domestic Violence" is by supporting your local DV center by attending community events. Each year, the DV centers host special events – from luncheons to walks & runs. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the amazing work these advocates are doing as well as contribute financially, in ways big or small, to their programs. ABC Action News is proud to partner with the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence and our state certified DV centers.
Here are some of the highlights, most of them happening during October, which is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month! For more information, county by county, visit
