Chihuahuas rescued after witnesses say they were left for dead along the interstate

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Witnesses say two Chihuahuas were found abandoned and running around along I-275 this week.

The two Chihuahuas named "Thelma" and "Louise" were picked up by a Good Samaritan after being found running around freely near I-275 and the 4th St. overpass. Witnesses say someone tossed the dogs on the side of the road. A third pup did not survive.

The Chihuahuas, both nine years old and weighing about four pounds, were filthy and injured. Megan Barrett, president of Limbo Chihuahuas in South Pasadena, believes the dogs were over-bred and left to die.

She's now asking the community for help in finding out who abandoned them. "If anybody saw anyone slow down on the side of the road and look like they were throwing garbage out, call authorities," said Barrett.

In a couple weeks, after getting their shots and getting nursed back to health, "Thelma" and "Louise" will also need forever homes.
