TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla - Temple Terrace Police confirm 9-year-old Felecia Williams’ body was found floating near Courtney Campbell Causeway Saturday.
Williams went missing Friday night after visiting a family friend, Eboni Wiley, at the Doral Oaks apartments in Temple Terrace. Wiley was arrested for providing false information to law enforcement yesterday. She bonded out of jail Sunday morning.
"Her story just doesn't add up. There's something not right about it," said Vera Edwards, a cousin of Williams.
Police are investigating this case as a homicide and have not named any suspects.
The child's death has rocked the neighborhood in Temple Terrace where the girl lived.
"I can't understand how somebody can hurt a child," said Angela Mitchell, who lives down the street from Williams' relatives.
"It's a wake up for all parents. Please, keep an extra eye on on your children because you have some people out here who have no heart," Mitchell said.
Temple Terrace Chief of Police Ken Albano said he made a personal promise to the victim's mother, Felecia Demerson, to use every available resource to help in the investigation.
"Every stone that can be turned over will be. And we will not rest until we bring this person to justice," Albano said.
Williams attended Edison Elementary School. Steve Hegarty with Hillsborough County Public Schools says there will be a crisis team and grief counselors available at the school for students on Monday.
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the identity and arrest of the killer.
Police are asking anyone with information on this incident to contact the Temple Terrace Police Department at (813) 989-7110.
