TEXAS CITY, TX -- An officer thought he was looking at the dead, decomposing body of a woman Friday night...until she blinked her eyes.  The officer then called for an ambulance.

A man, who said he was the woman's 38-year-old son, had called for help saying he believed his mother had bed sores.  When paramedics finally arrived at the Texas City home, the woman was lying on the floor in her own bodily fluids, smelling of feces.  Upon closer inspection, the paramedics saw she was infested with maggots and barely alive.

The woman is identified as a retired Galveston County Sheriff's deputy, 62-year-old Linda Sue Sainz.  The man who claimed to be her son was not at the home when the ambulance arrived.

Sainz was taken to the Mainland Medical Center.  Doctors are not sure if she will survive.
