Two Lakeland students get unwelcome morning surprise

LAKELAND, FL -- Some kids waiting at their bus stop got a scare this morning after woman forgot to check her rear view mirror.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says 51-year-old Joy Meyer was backing out of her driveway on Misty Lake Drive when she bumped two kids waiting at the bus stop.

The children, 7 and 10 years old, were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center as a precaution for their bumps and bruises.

Meyer was cited on the scene.

The victims, 20-year-old Erik Nicoletti and 19-year-old Cree Riley, were rushed to Tampa General Hospital.
