TAMPA, FL --- The driver of a FedEx tractor-trailer was killed in an early morning crash on I-4 near Tampa.

He's identified as 45-year-old William Morales of Tampa.

The crash occurred on I-4 westbound near the US 301 exit around 3 a.m.

Two lanes were closed during the investigation.

The crash also forced the closure of the westbound U.S. 301 - U.S. 92 ramp to I-4.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a tire came loose from a semi in front of the FedEx truck.  Morales hit the tire and lost control of his tractor-trailer.  He then crashed into the U.S. 92 overpass.

"It was freaky," said Russell Chyle, who witnessed the crash. "I'd just hate to go back and tell his family what happened. It's not good."

Further delays occurred at the exit while officials conducted an inspection of the structural integrity of the overpass.

The driver of the semi that lost the tire, 51-year-old Feliz Rios of Miami, was not hurt.

The Highway Patrol investigation continues.
