RIVERVIEW, Fla. - It's always been about the horses for Lorraine Wenig.
Lorraine's Horse Rescue is a non-profit that relies on the generosity of animal lovers to get by. Over the last three years, more than 120 neglected and abandoned horses found food and shelter here.
The rescue never turns away an animal. But by August, Lorraine's heart for horses cost her her home.
Rather than allow those in her care to do with out hay or medicine, Lorraine and her husband gave up their trailer and moved into the farm's office.
When Maria, an animal lover who lives in Riverview, heard about Lorraine, she dug deep and gave what she could. Maria donated $1,000. She was one of more than close to 20 people who sent contributions totaling close to $3,000 to the rescue after our story aired.
Lorraine bought food and medicine for the horses and spent another $300 to pay for a camper for herself. It is not much, but a roof over their heads allows the Wenigs to sleep at night so that they can spend their days focused on those who need them most.
The rescue is a 501 (c)(3). If you are interested in learning mor,e or would like to make a donation visit ltwhorserescue.org .
