Gilles Fouquart who works out of his home can’t take it anymore. The phone constantly rings from IRS scammers to debt relief pitches.

Robo dials hold us hostage in our homes and tie up our time on cell phones. These dreaded robo dialers are so rampant that one in every six calls turns out to be one. Add that to the political calls and you've got a recipe for frustration.

Fouquart installed the free software from nomorobo.com on his home phone and got relief.

Aaron Foss who created Nomorobo recently testified before a U.S. Senate subcommittee about the problem and the fact the Do Not Call list doesn't stop these callers.

Foss's blacklist database has more than 400 thousand phone numbers. These automated blasts hit up to 40 thousand phones in the U.S. a day.

Nomorobo is free for landlines.

We tested and found free effective call blocking apps for weary cell phone users as well.

Mr. number ranked number one by Time.com as best for stopping cell phone spam.  Truecaller app also works.

The number goes through their data base of more than a billion numbers to notify you who is calling. Some are identified as junk and automatically flagged. You may have to endure ads and limits. Premium services cost a fee.

Also try checking with your service provider to see what they offer.
