Furniture delivery truck hits power pole, customer left to pay damages

Action News gets results

LAKELAND, Fla. - Woody Boyer was having new recliners delivered to his house when the delivery truck struck a power line in his yard.

The collision pulled the pole sideways and it fell to the ground an hour later.  The accident left Boyer's house completely in the dark.

"I kept hollering ‘stop stop stop,' and he kept backing up," Boyer said.  "I would have never dreamed this would happen."

Boyer said it took about two weeks for a new power poll to be installed.

A subcontractor came out and hooked up the electricity.  Ashley Furniture and the delivery company continued to play pass the buck when it came to paying for the damages, according to Boyer.

"I telephoned Ashley's store and they said to call corporate and they said that it was the store's responsibility," Boyer said.

Ashley's local store directed him to the delivery company, who denied his claim.  Boyer ended up paying for the repair out of his own pocket, to the tune of $1,000.

That's when the I-Team contacted Ashley Furniture.

Boyer says that Ashley settled his claim within hours of our call.  Ashley confirms that they reached a confidential settlement with Boyer.

"You got done in four hours what I could not do inside of three months," Boyer said.  "I am so grateful for you."
