Financial hints your spouse is cheating

If you are married, would you have any idea if your spouse was cheating on you?

Sure, there are always the old hints like lipstick on the collar.

But in today's high tech world, there are now financial warning signs that your spouse may have a wandering heart.

Follow the Money Trail

Has that wedding bliss worn off? A new report in Money Tree.com says you don't need to hire a private investigator if you suspect cheating.

It says you just need to follow the money trail.

Among the warning signs of a cheating spouse:

  • The family cell phone bill gets higher for no reason, due to extra voice calls, testing, or data use.
  • They suddenly need a second cell phone, and say it's "from work."
  • The mail disappears the moment it shows up: they may be checking for another cell phone bill or credit card bill, or trying to intercept love letters.
  • They are gassing up the car more often, meaning they are driving more than usual.
  • And they're making more frequent ATM visits, taking out an extra $50 here and there for no apparent reason.

Doesn't That Stink?

And from the "doesn't that stink" file, the biggest financial warning sign your husband or wife is cheating:  Working more hours without more pay, especially if those longer hours stretch till 8 or 9 p.m.

Money tree says "Honey, I have to work late" is the most common excuse used by cheaters.

It says if they are working longer hours, ask to see it on their pay stub.

Best Bet: Stay Aware of Family Finances

Even if you have the most loyal spouse in the world, being aware of their finances is a good idea.

That way you can also make sure they are not secretly spending the retirement funds, gambling excessively, or making bad investment deals, and that way you don't waste your money.
