Checkers' sign reads 'crazy good food' but the fast food location in Sarasota had a serious unsanitary issue in the kitchen where that 'crazy good food' is prepared.

Checkers at 5331 Fruitville Road had to temporarily close for a few hours on July 11 after the state found sewage/wastewater backing up through the floor drains right in front of the ice maker and grill.

Inspectors discovered the plumbing system in disrepair and ceiling tiles also damaged near the air conditioning vent right above the main cook's line with water dripping near exposed food on the prep line.

Employees were literally standing and walking through the water while preparing food, according to the inspection report.

The state inspection report also found slimy/mold-like build-up and old food residue in the reach in cooler and no certified food manager on duty.

ABC Action News anchor Wendy Ryan called the Checkers' Sarasota location but no one ever answered the phone.

Ryan also emailed and called Checker's media representative, Kim Francis but she never responded.
