TAMPA - In this week's Tampa Bay Business Journal segment, editor Alexis Muellner discusses how HSN's digital makeover is increasing business, the revitalization opportunities created by HART's MetroRapid bus line, and the effective design concepts at local banks.

HSN, which is headquartered in St. Petersburg, has grown its customer base following several flat years. Upgraded offerings on its mobile platforms have taken off.

The company also recently rolled out a series of bold advertisements in USWeekly and on Glamcom using its new tagline, "HSN it's fun here."

Continued growth not only can help what is one of area's largest public companies, but it may mean the hiring of more employees here in Tampa Bay.

Hillsborough Area Regional Transit is scheduled to open its $25.3 million MetroRapid North South system on June 10.

The enhanced bus service will operate along Nebraska Avenue between downtown Tampa and the Hidden River Corporate Park near Interstate 75. Many business and city officials hope the increase in bus traffic will spark development and new economic opportunities where the bus line runs.

Banks are changing the ways they design their branches.

From the use of the latest technologies to the addition of freestanding computer stations to boost customer interaction, banks are learning ways to speed up service while staying relevant in a changing business environment.
