Tampa Bay Business Journal: December 27, 2013

TAMPA - In this week's Tampa Bay Business Journal segment, editor Alexis Muellner takes a look back at the biggest local business headlines in 2013 and some of the most interesting people he met during the past 12 months.

The biggest business story for Tampa Bay is the recovering economy. While the recovery has been slow, a number of local businesses added jobs and expanded their operations.

Both residential and commercial real estate rebounded. Homeowners saw their property values increase a sizeable amount. Companies, let by Amazon, also announced they would move or add facilities in the Bay Area.

Overall, Alexi says the Business Journal is optimistic about the prospects for 2014 based on how this year wrapped.

Alexis met and got to know a number of local business leaders over the past twelve months. Among his favorites are HSN's Mindy Grossman and Steve Klasko, the outgoing Dean at USF Health.

Mindy used experience from working at Nike at other companies to rebrand HSN into a global  lifestyle brand.

Steve Klasko is no longer in Tampa, but Alexis says he left his mark at USF Health trying to bring emotional intelligence for doctor and creating a better health care system.
