Tampa Bay Business Journal: April 19, 2013

TAMPA - In this week's Tampa Bay Business Journal segment, editor Alexis Muellner discusses how the best places to work in Tampa Bay, cool office spaces and how TiE is helping the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Each year the Tampa Bay Business Journal honors the region's best places to work. The paper honored the best 60 businesses this week in front of a crowd of 600 at the Tampa Hilton.

There are some characteristics each company shares. They engage their employees, giving them the kind of coaching they need to succeed. Management also listens and follows through on what they say.

Some of the companies also have cool offices spaces for their employees to work in.

Effective designs and workplace concepts are playing an increasingly critical role in helping businesses operate efficiently, improve morale and retain smart people. They also allow employees to show their individualism while being a team player.

The Indus Entrepreneurs, or TiE, is an organization that is focused on generating and nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurs.

TiE began in the Silicon Valley of California two decades ago. Dr. Kiran Patel opened up the newest TiE chapter in Tampa last fall.

"Our main focus is to create awareness among startups with innovative ideas so they can come forward and be funded," said Tampa chapter President Kunal Jain.

The hope is the Tampa TiE chapter can provide the seed capital needed for small Bay Area technology companies to successfully expand their business.
