List of 2014 Florida back-to-school sales tax holiday-eligible items

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The three-day 2014 Florida Back-to-School tax holiday is this weekend.

You will not be charged sales tax on eligible items from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 3.

Eligible items include clothing, footwear and certain accessories selling for $100 or less per item and certain school supplies that sell for $15 or less per item.

Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories are exempt on the first $750 of the sale price when they are purchased for non-commercial home or personal use.

The sales tax exemption does not apply to items costing more than the allowable price (except for computers); items being rented or leased; the cost to repair or alter any items; and any otherwise eligible items that are sold in a theme park, entertainment complex, hotel, motel, vacation resort or airport.

The following is a list of clothing items that will be exempt from sales tax during the holiday:

  • Aprons and clothing shields
  • Athletic supporters
  • Baby clothes
  • Backpacks
  • Bandanas
  • Barrettes and bobby pins
  • Bathing suits, caps and cover-ups
  • Belts and belt buckles
  • Bibs
  • Blouses
  • Book bags
  • Boots (except ski boots)
  • Bow ties
  • Bowling shoes
  • Braces and supports worn to correct a physical injury or incapacity
  • Bras
  • Caps and hats
  • Choir and altar clothing
  • Cleated and spiked shoes
  • Clerical vestments
  • Coats and wraps
  • Coin purses
  • Costumes
  • Coveralls
  • Diapers (baby and adult), diaper inserts and diaper bags
  • Dresses
  • Employee uniforms
  • Fanny packs
  • Fishing vests (non-floatation)

  • Car adaptors (for computers)

  • Computers (desktop, laptop or tablet for non-commercial home or personal use)
  • Computer batteries
  • Computer towers
  • Data storage devices (except for use in digital cameras)
  • Docking stations (for computers)
  • Electronic book readers
  • Hard drives
  • Headphones and earbuds
  • Ink and printer cartridges (for computer printers)
  • Keyboards (for computers)
  • Mice
  • Microphones (for computers)
  • Modems and routers
  • Monitors (except ones with a television tuner)
  • Motherboards
  • Personal digital assistant devices (except cell phones)
  • Port replicators
  • Printers and scanners
  • RAM
  • Software (non-recreational)
