WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - LEGOLAND took a big step today in their efforts to compete with giant theme parks in Orlando. Today, they held a ceremonial ground breaking for a new hotel. Park officials and community leaders attended the ceremony.
The hotel will be built just outside the park's front entrance.
"The opening of a LEGOLAND Hotel will transition LEGOLAND Florida from a single-day visit theme park to a multi-day resort destination," said General Manager Adrian Jones. "This will serve as a catalyst for future economic development in Polk County."
The 4 story hotel will featured 152 brightly colored and themed rooms, along with interactive play areas, a pool and a restaurant.
The project will bring 250 construction related jobs to the area and add another 250 jobs to the park.
There are 5 other LEGOLAND hotels in the world.
The hotel is is expected to open sometime in 2015.
LEGOLAND Florida has more than 50 rides, shows and attractions as well as a water park and the all-new LEGO World of Chima.
