Service leaks

Water service enters your home through a single, buried line connected to the municipal water main, or from a well if you live in the country. The water passes through a meter, either just inside your house or in a pit near the property line before branching out to supply your home. If there is a leak in the water service pipe past the municipal connection it Is the homeowner's responsibility to have it repaired. A major break can cause flooding, a minor break can cause seepage. Indications of possible seepage include an unusually high water bill with no apparent explanation, muddy areas under the water service line, or water seepage around basement walls near the point of entry. Detecting a leak in a buried pipe can be a challenge. Some businesses use high-tech listening devices to pinpoint the problem. If you believe you have a water service leak, contact a plumbing professional right away. If the leak appears to involve the municipal connection, contact your local water department or company to have it repaired.
