Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube announced a second man has been charged in the 2009 shooting death of Crystal Johnson. Johnson, then 19, was six months pregnant.

Manatee to vote on sales tax increase

Voters in Manatee County have a chance to weigh in on a sales tax increase today. The proposal involves raising the sales tax from six and a half percent to seven percent to finance health care for the poor. The move is expected to generate $23 million a year. Most purchases over $5,000 would be exempt from the tax.
