Duke Nukem Forever is coming... but does anyone care?

Duke Nukem Forever , which may be the most anticipated game of all time, is being released on June 14th.

This would have been a huge deal to me... if this was still the 90's.

Back in the 90's, the Duke Nukem series of games was in heavy rotation at the Sabatinelli household. I spent countless hours playing video games of every kind, but first-person shooters were my absolute favorite.

I played Duke Nukem 3D almost non-stop at one point. But once I beat it so many times I couldn't count them anymore, I was ready for something new. Then they announced Duke Nukem Forever. That was 1997.

Years passed and the occasional "Duke Nukem Forever is coming" story would be published.

And every single time, nothing happened.

Eventually, many Duke Nukem fans traded in their gaming machines for family-friendly systems like the Wii. Gone were the late nights of gaming. Instead there were jobs and families.

By the mid-2000's, Duke Nukem Forever had turned into the Guns N' Roses of video games -- a once magnificent franchise that had become the butt of jokes.

Rumors continued to swirl that the game was coming, but nothing ever happend.

Finally, in 2010, 2K Games and Gearbox Software started development on Forever. Gamers worldwide rejoiced -- except for many of us that counted ourselves as Duke Nukem fans in the 90's.

Duke Nukem has shown up to his own party 14 years late. Did anyone stick around to see his grand entrance?

Here's hoping that unlike Chinese Democracy , Duke Nukem Forever was worth the wait.
