Oprah Winfrey says she was recently on the receiving end of recent racism

Media mogul and talk show host Oprah Winfrey says she was the victim of discrimination in Switzerland.

According to The UK Telegraph , she told the celebrity news show "Entertainment Tonight" she was shopping in the country when it happened.

"I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention. I didn't have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karan skirt and my little sandals. But obviously "The Oprah Winfrey Show" is not shown in Zurich," she told the entertainment news show.

"I go into a store and I say to the woman, 'Excuse me, could I see the bag right above your head?' and she says to me, 'No. It's too expensive.'" The purse in question was a $38,000 crocodile skin bag by Tim Ford.

According to The Telegraph, the saleswoman went on to suggest Winfrey look at cheaper bags.

Winfrey tells the Hollywood-based TV show that  she left the shop calmly after the incident, but said that it proves that racism is still an issue.

The owner of the store spoke to CNN about the incident and denies that racism was a factor. "Mrs. Oprah said she just wanted to look at the bag, she didn't want it taken down, and because my sales assistant felt a little embarrassed about the price, she quickly said that she also had the model in other materials such as ostrich and suede, which weren't so expensive," explained Trudie Goetz, the manager of Trois Pommes.
