Tampa Bay area music stores participate in Record Store Day

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Independent record stores across the country are participating in Record Store Day on Saturday, April 21.

The original idea was conceived by Chris Brown, founded in 2007 as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned businesses.

Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day.  Hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe also make special appearances and performances.

Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday each April.

Daddy Kool Records , located at 666 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg, is one of several participating businesses.  Free live music will be playing until late Saturday night at nearby Local 662 and Fubar.

Tampa stores include Sound Exchange, Mojo Books & Music, Microgroove, Hot Wax.  In Oldsmar, Kingfish Records is also participating.
