LOS ANGELES - A publicist confirmed to ABC News Wednesday that Fresh Prince of Bel Air star James Avery has died. He was 68.
Avery's publicist, Cynthia Snyder, told The Associated Press that Avery died Tuesday in Glendale, Calif., following complications from open heart surgery.
Avery was known for his role as Uncle Phil in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. He also appeared in films like Dr. Dolittle 2 and License to Drive.
Fresh Prince co-star Alfonso Ribiero tweeted: "I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."
