Tropical Storm Olivia lingers in open Pacific

MIAMI - Forecasters say Tropical Storm Olivia is still churning over open waters in the eastern Pacific but poses no threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said at 5 a.m. EDT Monday that Olivia was about 845 miles (1,360 kilometers) west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Maximum sustained winds remained at 60 mph (95 kph), and it was moving north at 5 mph (7 kph).

Olivia is expected to become nearly stationary Monday night and begin weakening later in the day. The hurricane center says Olivia is forecast to become a tropical depression by Tuesday night.

The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
