TAMPA - Officials with the Hillsborough County Emergency Policy Group declared a local state of emergency for the county.
According to a release from the county, the declaration allows emergency officials to open shelters, request aid and resources, utilize emergency funding and take protective actions including calling for evacuations, emergency alerts, and shelter-in-place orders.
The Emergency Policy Group is made up of County Commissioners, the Sheriff, and Mayors of all three major cities.
