TAMPA - Severe thunderstorms caused extensive damage across the Tampa Bay area in a short amount of time Wednesday evening.
At 4300 Adamo Drive, a wall collapsed inside a building during heavy weather. The building was evacuated for safety concerns, and no injuries were reported.
On 50th St. near the Selmon Expressway, strong winds snapped telephone poles in half, and knocked others over completely. Power lines were draped across a railroad crossing.
At Columbus and 32nd St. in Tampa, a tree fell into a house, causing moderate damage. Red Cross has been contacted to help people who will be displaced by the damage.
In New Tampa, a major gas line has broken near Wharton High School. Bruce B. Downs Blvd. was closed to traffic, and a local evacuation was ordered. Emergency crews remedied the leak, and the road has been reopened. No inuries were reported.
At Florida and Linebaugh Avenues, two cars crashed into pumps at a Mobil Gas station, igniting a fire. No injuries were reported, and officials with Tampa Fire and Rescue say the fire is under control.
