TAMPA - Mold is a fungus that grows in areas fed by water or high humidity. Often, it feeds off of drywall, which is predominant in Florida houses.

When a hurricane hits, mold has a chance to enter your house, thrive, and reproduce.

It is necessary to eradicate mold quickly and securely or it will cause damage.

If walls become saturated with water after a storm:

  • Get air flowing within the house.

If mold becomes present in your home:

  • Hire an engineer or air quality hygenist as soon as possible. Mold spreads within 72 hours.
  • Get tarps to put on roof or windows to prevent water from entering your house.

In short, you must prepare properly or risk the presence of mold in your post-hurricane home.
