TAMPA - The Florida Highway Patrol looking for the driver who hit a woman who was crossing US-41/Tamiami Trail just after midnight Monday, then took off. FHP says Erika Leigh Fortner, 41, was crossing 41 near Montgomery, north of the airport, when she was hit by a car that then left the scene. Fortner was taken to Blake Medical Center with critical injuries, and passed away Monday afternoon.

FHP says the driver's side rearview mirror was found at the scene. The car involved may be a maroon colored hatchback.

Anyone with information about the car or driver is asked to call FHP at 239-938-1800 and leave a message for Trooper Barbara Ehrhart.
