Tampa Bay - Law enforcement agencies around the world increasingly use social media as a way to connect with their communities. Many Tampa Bay agencies have Twitter feeds that I check every day, for important information that I can share @TampaBayTraffic . They include Tampa Police (@TampaPD), Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (@HCSOSheriff), Lakeland Police (@LakelandPD), Polk County Sheriff's Office (@PolkCoSheriff), Pasco County Sheriff (@PascoSheriff), Clearwater (@CLWPublicSafety), Pinellas Park (@PinellasParkPD), Manatee County Sheriff (@ManateeSheriff). Some agencies update their Twitter feeds more often than others.
On Friday, March 22, 2013, @TampaPD and @LakelandPD will join agencies worldwide, mostly all from the United States but from as far away as Australia and Finland, for the first ever Global Tweet-A-Thon.The event is basically a virtual ride along via law enforcement agencies' Twitter accounts.
There are currently more than 150 agencies participating from the U.S., Canada, UK, Sweden, Iceland, and Australia. Any agency can join the Tweet-a-thon and tweet any portion of the 24-hour period.
Access a complete Twitter list of all of the participating agencies by simply following @TampaBayTraffic, clicking "Lists" and then "Police Tweet-a-thon 2013."
