TAMPA - Drivers who use the Toll-by-Plate option to pay tolls on the Selmon Expressway now are being charged an added administrative fee on each invoice.
Toll-by-Plate is an FDOT image based electronic toll collection system that uses photographic images of a vehicle's license plate to identify the customer responsible for payment.
As of June, the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) began using the Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) to issue Toll-by-Plate invoices, giving customers streamlined billing system for all local toll roads. As part of that conversion, video toll customers now have an added $2.50 administrative fee on each invoice, along with their toll transactions.
To encourage drivers who regularly travel on the Selmon (Crosstown) and the future I-4 Connector, to save money through the pre-paid SunPass system, THEA will hand out free SunPass Minis on Thursday, June 20, to Toll-by-Plate customers.
Drivers can roll through the former East Main Toll Service Plaza on the eastern end of the Selmon on Thursday, 6 AM to 6 PM, and trade their Toll-by-Plate video invoice for the SunPass Mini. Drivers who do not have a copy of their video invoice can still receive a free SunPass Mini by parking and registering at a tent by toll center.
