ST. PETERSBURG - The 30th Anniversary St. Anthony’s Triathlon is Sunday, April 28. The Triathlon brings thousands of athletes to downtown St. Petersburg as race participants swim in Tampa Bay and then bike and run along the scenic course through the streets of St. Petersburg. The event brings approximately $5 million to the local economy and benefits St. Anthony’s Hospital and its mission to serve the health of the community.
Motorists not participating or watching the triathlon are urged to find alternate routes as intermittent road closures are expected between 7 A.M. and 1:30 P.M. The Meek and Mighty Triathlon is Saturday, 6:30-10 A.M. To eliminate having runners and cyclist on the same road, organizers have changed the run course. The new run course will be utilizing the trail through Vinoy Park, 5th Avenue North in front of the Vinoy Hotel, Bayshore in front of Vinoy Park, and North Shore Drive on the South side of the pool. The only section that will have biker and runner traffic will be North Shore Drive on the south side of the pool. Bikers and runners will be separated by cones and barricades to prevent any runner/biker interference.
St. Anthony’s Triathlon race officials are working closely with the city of St. Petersburg in planning and St. Petersburg police officers will be directing traffic during the St. Anthony’s Triathlon.
